“We all marry our unfinished business. Consciously you think ‘With this person, I can finally be happy’ and unconsciously you think ‘Aha! A player in an old familiar game! ”
– Terry Real
Couples Therapy
Our relationships provide us with some of the most powerful opportunities and catalysts for growth. For many of us, our relationships are the birthplace of our sense of meaning, joy, and fulfillment. But it is often also our relationships that deplete us, trigger us, and bring us to our knees.
It can feel almost impossible to navigate habitual and complex patterns of triggering one another without outside support. Believe me, I know from experience! When we don’t have the skills and tools to notice and shift from our adaptive child patterns to our wise adult, we can wind up hurting people we love. And we can get in the way of creating the very thing we want, which for most of us is a sense of sense of deep connection, of knowing someone and being known.
I’ve been following my teacher, Terry Real’s work for years, and am in the process of completing my Relational Life Therapy certification, which is a two year program in which as therapists we deep dive into our own relational and attachment wounds, learning and practicing relational skills with ourselves and others as a foundation for doing this work with clients. The work of learning to live more relationally will not only transform your relationship with your partner but will transform your relationship with yourself and the way you experience the world as a whole. If this resonates for you, I would LOVE to work with you!

What can I expect during the first session?
During our first several sessions we will get a chance to see if we are a good fit, to assess your situation, and to clarify your treatment goals and desired outcomes. Before our first session, I’ll ask you to read over my informed consent, HIPPA policy, and for each of you to complete a short intake form so that we can best use our time in session. I’ll answer any questions that you all may have and we’ll explore what brings you to therapy, what you’ve tried in the past, and start to develop a plan to move forward.
How long is each session?
Typically both intake sessions and regular sessions last about an hour. Some people prefer longer sessions, which we can discuss.
How long can I expect to be in therapy?
As I shared above, during the first several sessions we’ll be exploring your goals and getting to better understand the unhelpful pattern or dance that you and your partner want to shift. Then we’ll shift into exploring the parts of you that get in the way of the changes you want to make. I’ll support you all in identifying different parts and patterns as well as learning tools and practice to shift into a more relational space so that you are freed up to connect and respond to your partner with love AND with boundaries.
How much does couples counseling cost?
I charge $150 per session for couples counseling. I accept cash, all major credit cards, and checks. I also accept Blue Cross Blue Shield, MedCost, Aetna, and United Insurance. You are responsible for finding out whether you have a copay or deductible. If you have another insurance provider, I can provide you a receipt for services or superbill which you can submit to your insurance company.
